As Predicted

What to know: Human traffickers—“coyotes”—tell news reporters that Biden’s promises of “benefits” are a powerful lure for illegal immigration. And that’s why their business is booming.

The TPPF take: TPPF made a trip to the border with the Texas congressional delegation on Monday to investigate.

“After more than two decades of incomplete and systematically dysfunctional policies on the southern border, the federal government under President Trump was finally beginning to turn the tide at the southern border,” says TPPF’s Ken Oliver. “And within just a few months, the Biden Administration has not only reversed all the gains that were achieved but has made the situation immeasurably worse. According to the human traffickers themselves, ‘business is booming’ thanks to President Biden and his uncompassionate, unsafe, and incompetent policies.”

This is What Recovery Looks Like

What to know: Red states—especially Texas—are leading the nation in economic recovery.

The TPPF take: TPPF’s Responsible Recovery Agenda will help speed economic recovery even more.

“The Texas Model works,” says TPPF’s Vance Ginn. “And given the economic situation, with many unemployed Texans still struggling from business closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, government restrictions, and following recent power outages, the Legislature should consider less spending, taxing, and regulating so Texans have more opportunities to prosper.”

Parental Rights

What to know: Texas ranks second behind California for the highest number of total terminations of parental rights.

The TPPF take: While reinstatement of parental rights isn’t appropriate in all cases, Texas should allow courts to decide when it is. That’s what House Bill 2926 would do.

“It is fitting that this bill is being heard during Holy Week as it rests on the ideas of redemption and restoration that are central to the observance of Easter,” TPPF’s Andrew Brown testified before the Texas Legislature. “Parents who have successfully turned their lives around and demonstrated an ability to care for their children deserve a second chance. House Bill 2926 recognizes that redemption is possible and provides an opportunity to restore families safely and successfully.”
