Rising Electricity Prices?
What to know: Experts say Texas electricity costs will continue to climb, in part due to higher transmission costs.
The TPPF take: Transmission costs make up a larger and larger part of those rising price tags.
“The average Texas household has seen transmission and distribution grow from 30% of their electric bill to 40% over the past decade plus, in part due to poor policy decisions that prioritize distantly located wind and solar instead of affordability and reliability,” says TPPF’s Carson Clayton. “Policymakers are now poised to repeat this error by using transmission to connect more wind and solar to meet growing demand instead of fixing the ERCOT market to prioritize reliable generation cited close to demand centers.”

When You’ve Lost the NYT…
What to know: Even the New York Times acknowledges that fraud “swamped” Minnesota’s welfare system under the watch of Gov. Tim Walz.
The TPPF take: If fraud in Minnesota looks bad, wait until you see what’s been happening in California.
“If Minnesota’s the starter, California’s the feast,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “Gov. Gavin Newsom’s budget gimmicks ignore the core issue: expanding programs without safeguards, then begging for bailouts when the math implodes. A presidential bid built on California’s mess? Good luck selling that to swing states tired of blue-state bailouts.”

Parental Rights
The TPPF take: TPPF attorneys have filed an amicus brief, urging justices to confirm a parent’s primary role in the upbringing of their child.
“In November, an overwhelming majority of Texans took the historic step of voting to make Texas the first state in the nation to enshrine affirmative protections for fundamental parental rights in its Constitution,” says TPPF’s Andrew Brown. “The Foundation’s brief encourages the Supreme Court of Texas to interpret and apply the parental rights amendment in a manner consistent with desires of Texans, who expect their government to treat the parent-child relationship as sacred and safeguard it accordingly.”
