Save Our Elections
What to know: The U.S. House has passed the SAVE Act, which would ensure that only registered voters are casting ballots in U.S. elections.
The TPPF take: The SAVE Act promotes straightforward verification that most voters already support.
“According to the Pew Research Center, 83% of Americans support ‘requiring all voters to show government-issued photo identification,” says TPPF’s Josh Findlay. “In a divided country, that level of agreement is rare. When an eligible American citizen goes to vote, he should feel confident that his ballot counts — and carries equal weight.”

A Birthday Party
What to know: America is celebrating her 250th birthday this year.
The TPPF take: Just in time for this birthday bash, a Texas program aims to improve civic literacy in the Lone Star State.
“At a time when we Americans routinely worry about the health of our civic culture, the U.S. Department of Education has made a notable investment,” says TPPF’s Richard Johnson. “Earlier this month, the department approved a $1.9-million grant for ‘The American Civic Tradition at 250,’ a joint initiative of Texas Southern University and West Texas A&M University aimed at improving civic literacy in underserved communities.”

Social Studies
What to know: The Texas State Board of Education will meet today to consider Social Studies curricula for Texas students.
The TPPF take: American school children should be taught how exceptional the United States is.
“Texas is leading the nation by implementing a chronological history framework that tells the full, unfiltered story of how America became exceptional,” says TPPF’s Kate Bierly. This framework does something radical in today’s age: it tells the truth. It embraces the good, the true, and the beautiful about our past, which is precisely why it has become a target.”
