School Choice is Near
What to know: At TPPF’s yearly Texas Policy Summit, the big three-Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and House Speaker Dustin Burrows, all committed to passing a universal school choice bill to empower Texas parents.
The TPPF take: The time for school choice is now, and all eyes are on the Texas House.
“I’m incredibly excited, not just about House Bill 3’s universal ESAs, but with how quickly and decisively the House is moving on parent empowerment this year,” said TPPF’s Greg Sindelar. “House Bill 3 will provide meaningful options to the parents and children of Texas.”

Right to Repair
What to know: More and more states are considering “right to repair” bills that would “require equipment manufacturers to provide producers with the tools and information to repair their own equipment.”
The TPPF take: Texas needs a “right to repair” law.
“In the 89th legislative session, the Texas Legislature has a unique opportunity to craft policy that reflects the needs of Texans—whether they are farmers struggling with tractor software restrictions, small business owners fighting for fair competition, or everyday consumers burdened by costly repairs,” says TPPF’s Greyson Gee. “By enacting a right to repair law, Texas can ensure that its residents have the freedom to maintain and repair their property without undue interference and restrictions.”

Scandalous Subsidies
What to know: President Donald Trump is taking aim at government subsidies for electric vehicles.
The TPPF take: Demand for electric vehicles often depends upon state and federal subsidies.
“Proponents of EVs have falsely pushed the claim that EVs will soon cost less than gas-powered cars. Our new study shows that EVs are still a long way from being competitive without massive subsidies,” says TPPF’s Brent Bennett. “Rolling back these subsidies and burdensome regulations in the U.S. would save consumers money and stop the auto industry from falling off a financial cliff.”
