Showing Some Fidel-ity

What to know: Mexico’s president says that the unprecedented surge in illegal immigration is being fueled by U.S. sanctions on countries such as Cuba and Venezuela.

The TPPF take: The Biden administration’s disastrous border policies are driving the migrant surge.

“Chaos provides cover for all types of criminal activity,” says TPPF’s Selene Rodriguez. “As a direct result of the catch-and-release polices implemented by the Biden administration, our international border with Mexico and our immigration process for unaccompanied alien children have devolved into total chaos—chaos that is ripe for exploitation by human traffickers.”

Running on Empty

What to know: The nation’s electrical infrastructure is simply not up to the electric vehicle mandates now being contemplated by California and other governments.

The TPPF take: The Biden administration is committed to forcing Americans into electric vehicles, even if the EVs don’t meet a family’s needs.

“This is the brute force application of policy preferences—forcing choices onto consumers,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke. “The result will be disastrous—it won’t be millions of Americans happily motoring to work and back in electric vehicles; most of us can’t afford them. Instead, we’ll increase pressure on the poor, who have to drive longer distances to work and who are priced out of the electric vehicle market.”

Power to the Parents

What to know: A special session of the Texas Legislature will start on Monday; the focus will be on parent empowerment and school choice.

The TPPF take: Now is the time to put parents fully in charge of their children’s educations.

“Throughout the last year, we’ve worked hard to advance parent empowerment,” says TPPF’s Mandy Drogin. “But our opponents have worked hard, too—mostly to mislead and fearmonger. The unions, education lobbyists and administrators, whose only goal is to rake more money in to the system, worry that parental empowerment will erode their control and require greater accountability.”
