Sinking

What to know: The Biden/Harris administration’s Green New Deal is coming apart—as illustrated by the massive wind turbine that fell apart in the waters of Nantucket earlier this month.

The TPPF take: The administration cut corners in the environmental permitting process for Vineyard Wind.

“In its rush to implement its ‘energy transformation,’ the Biden/Harris administration skipped key environmental impact studies,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke. “The federal government is required to ensure safety and environmental protection by law when approving projects including offshore wind farms. And officials knew this project came with risks.”

That’s How It Works

What to know: Banning gas-powered vehicles—which subsidize electric vehicles—will cause the price of EVs to skyrocket. The true cost of buying and owning an EV over its lifetime is equivalent to paying more than $17 per gallon of gas.

TPPF Take: The Biden administration is increasing the cost of gasoline vehicles and subsidizing EVs by ratcheting up the fuel economy standards and giving EVs 7 times more fuel economy credits than they actually deserve.

“Proponents of EVs have falsely pushed the claim that EVs will soon cost less than gas-powered cars; our study shows that EVs are still a long way from being competitive without massive subsidies,” says TPPF’s Brent Bennett. “The Biden/Harris administration’s stringent fuel economy standards and regulatory manipulations are driving American automakers toward bankruptcy and adding thousands of dollars to the cost of every gasoline vehicle.”

Microschools

What to know: “Microschools” are popping up in Florida, showing that empowering parents with school choice gives them more options—even if they’re in rural areas with no or few existing private schools.

The TPPF take: Florida’s experience shows that parent empowerment benefits everyone—even rural areas that seem to lack additional options.

“Rural parents are like the rest of us,” says TPPF’s Roy Maynard. “They want to be sure their children are graduating college or career ready, and have educational and/or job opportunities that allow them to drop roots and start a family in their hometown.”
