Tax Compression

What to know: Leaders in the Texas Legislature, as well as Gov. Greg Abbott, are signaling their support for tax rate compression as the best way to reform the property tax system.

The TPPF take: Tax rate compression is the only approach that provides broad-based relief for all and propels Texas down the pathway toward a complete elimination of the property tax.

“With tax rate compression, it’s not just homeowners that would see this kind of relief,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “Businesses would also see their tax bills shrink because of the state-mandated tax rate cuts. Too, renters stand to gain as landlords could pass along tax savings in the form of lower rents.”

History on Trial

What to know: A trial date has been set for a Texas history buff’s lawsuit against the newly woke Texas State Historical Association, and the ideological makeup of the TSHA’s board.

The TPPF take: The TSHA is a nonprofit that publishes academic journals, holds conferences and puts out both the “Handbook of Texas” and the “Texas Almanac.”

“A quote from Texas Rangers Captain McDonald fits here: ‘No man in the wrong can stand up against a fellow that’s in the right and keeps on a-comin’,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke. “J.P. Bryan is in the right—and he’s going to keep on a-comin. And this is how we save history from the woke scolds.”

How Unions Broke Education

What to know: Among the California teachers’ union demands to the state’s taxpayers are “drought-resistant shrubs, a Climate Justice Day, reparations for Black students, and converting unused school and office buildings into housing for homeless kids and their families.”

The TPPF take: The teachers’ unions are deeply anti-American.

“Education is not only the pathway to a better life, but the tool needed to fight back against communism, tyranny, and authoritarianism,” says Eva Hahn, writing for The Cannon Online. “At the center of the struggle for parent empowerment is a struggle for the soul of our nation. For the sake of our kids, our grandkids, and the rest of our progeny, we cannot lose. We must not.”
