Tax Cut Elections
What to know: Gov. Greg Abbott is championing a new proposal to “[e]mpower voters to roll back property tax rates through referendums.” With this tool, Texans could petition for an election to cut taxes.
The TPPF take: The tax cut election concept promises to give Texans a powerful new tool to right-size local government and ease sky-high tax bills.
“On one hand, local officials have endless ways to raise taxes, i.e. rate hikes, voter-approval tax rate elections, bond elections, certificates of obligation, and more. On the other hand, voters have only one real way to lower taxes, which is to elect the right local politicians. But with the tax cut election concept in place, Texans will have another powerful tool at the ready to lower the cost of government on their own,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “This is local control at its finest.”

Billions Lost
What to know: President Joe Biden’s administration gave away billions of dollars to fund climate initiatives in other countries, the Center Square is reporting.
The TPPF take: The climate scam is over.
“The catastrophist narrative is losing its grip, and more people are recognizing, as billionaire Bill Gates now does, what Life:Powered and our allies have been saying for many years,” says TPPF’s Cullen Neely. “Lifting people from poverty protects them from an always-changing climate better than any scheme to reduce carbon emissions.”

Turkey and All the Trimmings
What to know: New York City has elected a socialist as mayor.
The TPPF take: The Thanksgiving holiday has some lessons about socialism for us all.
“One thing to be thankful for this Thanksgiving is that it took the Pilgrims only a year or so to figure out that socialism was bad, both for individuals and communities as a whole,” says TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “Four centuries ago, William Bradford, the first governor of the Plymouth Colony, stated flatly in his history of Plymouth that the Pilgrims had been wrong to think the ‘taking away of property and commonwealth would make them happy and flourishing, as if they were wiser than God.’”
