What to Know: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently reported a landmark milestone: the 287(g) program now has over 2,500 active Memorandums of Agreement covering 39 states and two U.S. territories.
The TPPF Take: This explosive expansion (up from 1,000 agreements just a year ago) is a harsh rebuke of the Biden administration’s devastating open-border policies.
“These agreements authorize ICE ‘to delegate state and local law enforcement officers the authority to perform specified immigration officer functions under ICE’s direction and oversight.'” says TPPF’s Eric Oldfather. “Reclaiming control over our safety requires bold, uniform action. The Texas Legislature should take the next logical step of requiring all Texas law enforcement agencies to participate in the 287(g) program.”

What to know: Last week, the Department of Homeland Security approved a $7.5 billion reimbursement to Texas for costs incurred securing the southern border during the Biden border crisis.
The TPPF take: President Trump, Gov. Greg Abbott, congressional leaders, and the Department of Homeland Security deserve credit for making this reimbursement possible.
The last several years taught Texas an important lesson: protecting the Lone Star State is our responsibility, and we can’t assume Washington will always do its part,” says TPPF’s Selene Rodriguez. “Texas was right to develop the capabilities necessary to protect its territory and its people, and the state should not relinquish those capabilities simply because it now has a willing partner in Washington.”

FIX IT BEFORE IT GETS WORSE
What to Know: New reports indicate most Americans should expect to pay more in healthcare next year, regardless of where they get insured from.
The TPPF take: The reason people are flirting with the idea of socialism is simply that the costs of healthcare and housing are too high and Congress is not solving it.
“Healthcare is increasingly the No. 1 issue for voters,” says TPPF’s Dr. Cliff Porter. “There is a stranglehold by both hospital and insurance corporate cartels subsidized by government cronyism, profoundly worsened by ObamaCare (the ironically named Affordable Care Act). Voters are now willing to try something else if elected officials won’t act.”
