Terrorist Organizations

What to know: After criminal cartels killed American civilians in Mexico, two U.S. senators are re-introducing legislation that would label the cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

The TPPF take: Mexican cartels should be designated as foreign terrorist organizations.

“Texans who knew Mexico as a friend and a neighbor are distressed at the choices made by the Mexican regime, especially in the past four years,” says TPPF’s Joshua Treviño. “They are choices that have empowered cartels, increased corruption, grievously harmed Mexicans, brought Mexico to the precipice of narco-state status, and directly threatened Texas families and communities. Those threats apply beyond Texas: every American family and community now experiences the same threat, from the same Mexican state-cartel nexus.”

Human Trafficking

What to know: Speaking of those cartels, one of their most lucrative crimes is human trafficking.

The TPPF take: The city of Austin has recently taken steps to combat human trafficking. These efforts are led by Councilwoman Mackenzie Kelly. She says she learned the extent of human trafficking when she went to a homeless encampment as part of a ride-along with the Austin police.

“I met a woman who was in distress. I spoke with the sergeant about her situation, and he let me know that she was being sex trafficked in the camp,” Kelly explains. “At that point, it broke my heart because it occurred to me that she couldn’t be the only person experiencing homelessness in this type of situation. Our city needs to do more to help these people get lifted out of their situation.”

Lone Star Woke

What to know: What’s at least partially driving the demand for parent empowerment? Public schools pushing dangerously “woke” political agendas.

The TPPF take: Many may believe that “woke” policies are confined to the urban districts, but parents in rural districts are seeing them, too.

“Radical indoctrination and the prevalence of extremely inappropriate material in schools in not just a big city problem. It’s everywhere,” said TPPF’s Mandy Drogin. “And if parents weren’t shocked enough by the graphic sexual material being made available to their children, the pushback from school boards, administrators, and radicalized teachers has been truly unbelievable. Schools should be a place of rigorous academic learning, not political propaganda, graphic sexual material, and divisive hurtful classroom activities.”
