That’s No Moon

What to know: NBC claims that “backlash is brewing” over the so-called Death Star bill, the Texas Legislature’s recently passed preemption measure. NBC also falsely claims it “eliminates water breaks.”

The TPPF take: HB 2127 hasn’t gone into effect yet, but the media is still claiming it is causing deaths right now.

“Opponents of HB 2127 understand that this new law represents an existential threat to Texas progressives,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “That’s because the far left in Texas has been largely locked out of power at the state and federal levels for decades; and so it has been forced to manipulate the levers of local government to advance its extremist agenda. However, with this new law in effect, progressives’ ability to muscle through an extremist agenda will be greatly diminished—and that’s what they fear the most.”

Border Crisis

What to know: The Biden administration says the border crisis is over. It’s not.

The TPPF take: Because the Biden administration’s actions don’t match its words, the flow of migrants into the U.S. is unimpeded.

“It doesn’t really matter what the U.S. government says, its actions don’t match its words,” says TPPF’s Rodney Scott. “What the Biden administration is doing totally overrides what the administration is saying. When would-be migrants see their friends and families posting from America, they come. And they tell their friends. Every successful crossing encourages more.”

ESG

What to know: In a weird reversal of the anti-ESG movement, California is set to ban its public pension funds from investing in fossil fuel industries.

The TPPF take: Our data shows that if the U.S. banned all fossil fuel consumption and went entirely “net-zero” by 2050, the effect on global temperatures by 2100 would be negligible.

“Those who want to ban our most affordable, reliable, and abundant source of energy might be surprised to know that banning fossil fuels in the developed world and going 100% renewable — if it were even feasible — would have no meaningful impact on the temperature,” says TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “Furthermore, the resulting increase in costs and blackouts would have a devastating impact to families that could least afford it.”
