That’s Not How This Works

What to Know: San Francisco policies—not holding “problem tenants” accountable—are making public housing there unlivable.

The TPPF Take: No Accountability = No Opportunity for Success

“In the world of public housing and in homelessness, accountability—such as work and sobriety requirements—are now considered to be ‘barriers’ to getting people the help they need. Rules, ‘the advocates’ argue, discourage people from accepting help.” says TPPF’s Michele Steeb. “People and systems will flourish only where accountability exists. Until we demand that accountability be instilled at every level of the public housing and homeless systems, these systems, and the people they are designed to help, will continue to struggle.”

Not a High Bar

What to Know: A French rail company has quit a California project, saying the state is too dysfunctional to deal with. In the meantime, it will continue to work in North African countries.

The TPPF Take: Economic freedom matters.

“Freer states that were more reluctant to shut down their economies due to COVID-19 are doing much better economically than states with severe shutdowns,” says TPPF’s Vance Ginn. “Even a state like California is suffering — which was considered an American paradise for nearly a century, with its perfect weather and natural beauty.”

For the Kids

What to Know: A black principal has offered a vigorous defense of classical education and the anti-woke 1776 Project curriculum, which upholds American exceptionalism.

The TPPF Take: Long-debunked “progressive education” ideas are why so many parents are flocking to classical schools, such as Founders Classical Academy in Lewisville.

“In rejecting the woke education establishment, parents are choosing once again the real aims of education—the true, the good and the beautiful,” says TPPF’s Roy Maynard. “Founders Classical Academy is a public charter school with 20 campuses; each has a waiting list.”
