The Presidential Debate

What to know: President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will face off on Thursday in the election cycle’s first presidential debate.

The TPPF take: American families deserve to hear real answers—from both candidates.

“Americans are increasingly concerned about foreign wars and threats of international terrorism. They’re worried about the economy and their jobs and their kids,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke. “They don’t want political theater when the GOP and Democratic presidential candidates come together later this month. They want answers. It’s just a shame the media in control of the debate will be unlikely to ask the right questions.”

Oh Really?

What to know: Does a new report from MIT really make the case that connecting the Texas power grid (ERCOT) to surrounding states would make our grid more stable?

The TPPF Take: Connecting Texas to other states is more expensive and less effective than fixing the ERCOT market to build more dispatchable generation in Texas.

“The bottom line is that this project will not meaningfully improve reliability in Texas as long as the ERCOT market remains broken,” says TPPF’s Brent Bennett. “Texas needs to focus on fixing the market—primarily the federal subsidy-driven overbuilding of wind and solar that is causing the existing reliability deficit—and not place its hopes on its neighbors to bail it out.”

Mass Amnesty

What to know: President Biden has a plan to extend amnesty to hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants living in the U.S.

The TPPF take: The left’s plan for mass amnesty is now being implemented.

“Biden’s executive order would not only grant immediate work permits and deportation protections but also create from thin air a pathway to permanent legal status and eventual U.S. citizenship,” says TPPF’s Matt Eagan. “By removing the requirement for illegal aliens to leave the country to fix their status, the administration is fundamentally altering the legal landscape, potentially allowing millions to sidestep legal immigration processes.”
