The Root of the Problem

What to know: Governor Abbott is highlighting the real problem with property taxes—despite the state lawmakers’ best efforts to get tax bills down, local governments continue “diminishing the impact of state cuts by continually raising rates.”

The TPPF take: We’re caught in a cycle where the state provides tax relief and local governments swoop in to steal it.

“Every time the Legislature moves to lower taxes, local governments hastily erode it through rate hikes, bond propositions, and other spending commitments. This is why everyone’s tax bill continues to rise,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “For the sake of every homeowner and business, we need to get to the root of this problem—and fix it permanently.”

Unlikely Ally

What to know: Harvard University law professor Alan Dershowitz says the Trump administration’s efforts to defund the elite college are justified.

The TPPF take: Even Thomas Jefferson would have defunded Harvard.

“Withholding billions in grants and contracts from Harvard is far from political theater,” says TPPF’s Tom Lindsay. “It speaks to a deeper question: What obligations do universities have when they receive public money? When students—especially Jewish students—report feeling unsafe or harassed, especially during heated protests over the Israel-Gaza conflict, it’s the right and duty of the public to demand that Harvard live up to its legal and moral responsibilities.”

Violence is in Progressive DNA

What to know: Protests in Los Angeles turned violent on Saturday.

The TPPF take: Marxism and progressivism cannot create; they can only destroy.

“While the narrative is that these protests and the violence are driven by anger over Trump and the deportations, the truth of the matter lies deeper—at the very foundation of progressivism,” says TPPF’s Austin Prochko. “Karl Marx lived an easy life, and yet still embraced bitterness and came up with a philosophy and ideology of envy and destruction. In other words, Marxists have always been spoiled brats throwing a temper tantrum when they don’t get their way.”
