There’s No Gold
What to know: California Gov. Gavin Newsom is emerging as the Democratic frontrunner for president in 2028.
The TPPF take: Newsom claims that his state is no longer bleeding residents.
“Really? Let’s take a look,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore, a former California assemblyman. “The growth California did see last year was composed of a net gain of 361,057 international immigrants—including former President Joe Biden’s tsunami of illegal aliens—offsetting a domestic out-migration of 239,575 residents in 2024 plus natural births and deaths. California’s continued net out-migration to states like Texas and Florida persists, screaming underlying dissatisfaction with California’s high cost of living and taxes.”

Doubling Down on Crime
What to know: The Democrats continue to protest President Donald Trump’s intervention on the dangerous streets of Washington, D.C. But that makes crime the president’s best issue, one leftist acknowledges.
The TPPF take: President Trump has the authority to step in when the D.C. government is failing.
“The Constitution is clear: D.C. is federal land under federal jurisdiction,” says TPPF’s Brett Tolman. “If local law enforcement cannot manage the crime, federal law enforcement officers are not only able to step in — they are supposed to, at least temporarily. Public safety is critical everywhere, but especially in a city where all our legislators work and millions of Americans visit each year.”

Unions Hate Choice
What to know: Unionized public school teachers in five states have filed lawsuits challenging school choice. Texas isn’t one of them—yet.
The TPPF take: The teachers’ unions aren’t concerned about children—they’re only there to represent their dues-paying members.
“Texas parents finally defeated the teachers’ unions in the last legislative session after fighting for over three decades to pass school choice and establish the largest Education Savings Account program in the country,” says TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “But as long as the teachers’ unions can collect dues—and in most states teachers have no choice but to pay them—their wars against a good education aren’t over.”
