Vacation’s All I Ever Wanted
What to know: Memorial Day has unofficially launched summer vacation season. And prices—ranging from gas to road snacks—are inching down.
The TPPF take: In their travels, Americans are celebrating the Trump economy—and their freedom.
“Had either the Biden or Harris tickets prevailed last November, those numbers could look quite different,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke. “The Biden administration’s war on domestic energy, including the former president’s ham-fisted approach to gas prices, only led to higher energy prices. And that was the point.”

What a Waste
What to know: A prominent state lawmaker is calling for the Texas Legislature to finally ban taxpayer-funded lobbying, saying: “Up to $100 million per year of Texans’ tax dollars are used to hire Austin lobbyists that then lobby against taxpayers and parents. This is waste, fraud, and abuse.”
The TPPF take: Spending money on lobbyists is not a good or legitimate use of taxpayer money.
“Governments should not be lobbying government for more government. It’s a waste of money and those funds could be better spent on actual societal needs,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “This harmful practice must be stopped.”

A Golden Dome
What to know: China, Russia and North Korea really, really hate President Trump’s plan for a “Golden Dome” missile defense system.
The TPPF take: Of course they hate it, just as the Soviets hated Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative.
“Technology has altered the equation for missile defense, likely making defending against nuclear missiles, even hypersonic ones, less expensive than building the offensive nuclear weapons,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “This was not the case when Reagan announced SDI in 1983. The Department of Defense will be capable of protecting the homeland from a devastating nuclear attack—without automatically resorting to a massive nuclear counterstrike that could kill and wound 100 million people or more.”
