Voting Early, Vote Often

What to know: In Harris County, voters will see eight separate elections in less than a year.

The TPPF take: Uniform election dates are part of TPPF’s Election Integrity Agenda, ahead of the upcoming legislative session.

“Texas should require local elections to be consolidated with the November uniform election date,” says TPPF’s Josh Findlay. “This change would increase voter turnout, reduce costs and administrative burden, and limit the influence of low-turnout special interest outcomes.”

E. Pluribus Unum

What to know: America celebrated its 200th anniversary—the Bicentennial—with a spirit of unity. That spirit is no longer quite as evident.

The TPPF take: America is still worth celebrating at its 250th anniversary.

“Even in the bicentennial mania of 1976, our nation’s failings were front and center,” says TPPF’s Roy Maynard. “But if there’s one thing a 12-year-old knows well, it’s that ability and action often take time to catch up to aspiration. The underlying truths remain: All men are created equal, and we have rights government can’t take away — not even in the name of equity.”

Artificially Intelligent

What to know: Why are college seniors booing mentions of artificial intelligence during commencement speeches?

The TPPF take: AI is changing higher education—and the entire economy.

“Higher education was sold as the promise of landing a job, a stable income, a fulfilling life,” says TPPF’s Cameron Abrams. “The white-collar existence of the middle-class American is now threatened by AI. Massive destabilization by computational developments removes the very necessity of credentialization and specialization that has become modern academia.”
