‘We Got Him’
What to know: The full story of the rescue of a downed U.S. pilot in Iran is now coming out.
The TPPF take: This will go down as one of the most daring rescue operations in our nation’s history.
“The pilot was badly injured but still managed to climb a 7,000-foot ridge in the Zagros Mountains to evade capture,” says TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “He was rescued after a masterful collaboration between Special Forces and the CIA. This was another awesome example of who Americans are and what we can do. When President Donald Trump announced the rescue with the words, ‘We got him,’ the entire country breathed a sigh of relief.”

School Debt
What to know: A new podcast from Real Clear Investigations shows how big Texas’ public education debt has grown.
The TPPF take: School district debt continues to reach new heights of absurdity.
“School districts are drowning in debt and this tiny school district’s extravagant new sports complex illustrates the depth of the problem. Things are completely out of hand,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “It’s long past time for a stricter school district debt limit that better protects Texas taxpayers.”

Seriously?
What to know: The Texas Tribune claims the state’s new ban on using SNAP (food stamps) for sodas and candy “troubles diabetics and hypoglycemics.”
The TPPF take: Sodas and candy contribute to diabetes.
“This does not put diabetics at risk. An orange or OJ solves hypoglycemia better and is SNAP approved,” says TPPF’s Dr. Cliff Porter. “Texas’ waiver is a measured reform realigning SNAP with its original mission: supporting access to essential, nutritious foods. Where legitimate medical needs exist, they should be addressed through health care interventions, not by broadening the scope of a public assistance program beyond its core function.”
