Wind Comes Whippin’ Down the Plains

What to know: Oklahoma has become the latest state to push back against environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing, by pulling its funds from BlackRock and other investors that embrace ESG.

The TPPF take: The ESG movement is all about power, not about maximizing returns for pensioners and retirees.

“ESG investing, which could be a useful tool for individuals to make informed choices about their investments, has instead become a wrecking ball that could destroy entire industries,” says TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “The un-American agenda of the climate cartel is an affront to the principles of liberty that founded our country.”

While We’re at it, DEI

What to know: A new book shows how “woke” medicine—forced through DEI initiatives at medical schools—will end up harming Americans through lowering standards for medical students (and faculty) in the name of equity.

The TPPF take: DEI initiatives aren’t even achieving their own stated goals.

“A Baylor University study conducted in 2018 found that having a DEI program at a university had no impact on increasing minority faculty hiring,” notes TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “There’s no evidence that DEI helps increase successful college outcomes for minority and women students, either. And we have almost daily examples of how DEI stifles free speech, with a Stanford Law School dean’s shouting down of a federal judge being the most recent example.”

Hurting, not Healing

What to know: The Texas AG’s Office is launching an investigation into the Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin over “gender transitioning” procedures performed on children.

The TPPF take: States such as Texas and Florida are right to prohibit surgical and chemical modification of children.

“’Gender-affirming care’ sounds harmless and even positive,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke. “Yet it covers horrific medical procedures on children that result in a lifelong need for treatments, sterility, and the inability to orgasm. More and more research documenting risks to the health of children and irreversible side effects associated with these treatments has led several European nations to reverse course on providing such care to minors.”
