Worse Before it Gets Better

What to Know: Over the weekend, the U.S. Senate passed the so-called “Inflation Reduction Act,” which will do little about inflation, but will make American families’ budgets even tighter.

The TPPF Take: Americans are already sacrificing their savings to keep up with inflation.

“Ultimately, what’s needed now are pro-growth policies of spending, taxing, regulating, and printing cuts instead of what’s coming out of Washington,” says TPPF’s Vance Ginn. “President Biden and Democrats in Congress aren’t helping the situation with the ‘Inflation Reduction Act,’ as it will lead to more debt and more inflation that will further deplete savings, thereby making a bad situation worse for Americans.”

How About Just Plain Learning

What to Know: A Houston Chronicle columnist is misrepresenting “social emotional learning” (SEL) as a harmless and useful classroom tool—that it merely helps “children to develop self-esteem, manage emotions, and empathize with others.”

The TPPF Take: On the contrary, SEL is traumatizing students.

“Simply stated, SEL uses the power of emotional manipulation to advance a critical theory-based agenda,” says TPPF’s Carol Swain. “The question for Texas, like other states that have made efforts to remove critical-theory-based concepts from K-12 classrooms, is how to close and lock the door — to prevent social justice warriors and activist teachers from using SEL materials and their own values to evade the intent of ‘prohibited concepts’ legislation.”

Heat Wave

What to Know: Texas remains in the grip of a summer heat wave.

The TPPF Take: Heat waves happen in the summer—what makes this worse is climate policies, not the climate itself.

“This year, Americans will pay $5,200 more than last year to cover rising prices of gas, electricity, and everyday items,” says TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “That’s what matters. With a third of Americans struggling to pay their bills each month it’s no surprise that only 1% of voters believe that climate is the most important issue facing America.”
