Statement by Thomas K. Lindsay, Ph.D., Director of TPPF’s Center for Higher Education:

“For years, the Texas Public Policy Foundation has championed measures to increase transparency and accountability in Texas public higher education.  The UT System’s new website comports with the passage last session of House Bill 1296. This bill requires the Texas Education Association, the Texas Workforce Commission, and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to collaborate in order to identify post-secondary and career benefits of two- and four-year higher education programs, postsecondary technical education, skilled workforce careers, and career education programs. This also includes information on cost, debt, graduation, and employment rates, is posted on the agency’s website, and made available to counselors, students, and parents.

“This information on student outcomes will prove an essential resource to prospective students and their parents as they work to find schools and majors that promise a just return on their sizable investments in higher education.”
