In poll after poll, voters across the Lone Star State all place a premium on finding a fix to Texas’ broken property tax system. Take the latest poll from the University of Texas and the Texas Tribune for example.
In February, the two organizations surveyed 1,200 registered voters statewide and asked the following:
Which of the following do you think should be the legislature’s top priority?
The top response? Lowering property taxes.

Interestingly, the third most popular response was in the same ballpark as the first, i.e. limiting government spending and imposing no new taxes.
The polling data makes clear that Texans recognize the problem and want a solution. So now the question becomes: Can lawmakers deliver?
