Defunding Sanity
What to know: Vice President Kamala Harris is being haunted by her support for the “defund the police” movement since 2020.
The TPPF take: Crime may be starting to come down in some places, but that’s not due to federal policies.
“Let’s give credit where credit is due,” says TPPF’s Brett Tolman. “Yes, it’s encouraging that crime is beginning to drop after historic increases during the pandemic, but the Biden-Harris administration’s big government, free-spending blank checks were not the hero of the day. What makes communities safer is the actions of law enforcement, community leaders and local governments.”

GOP Platform
What to know: The Republican Party has released its platform for the upcoming election.
The TPPF take: The GOP platform would right the nation’s course on energy.
“Republican leaders are making two key promises on energy: to ‘make America the dominant energy producer in the world’ and, less broadly, to ‘cut costly and burdensome regulations’ including the electric vehicle mandate,” says TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “The Republican Party platform offers a stark contrast from a Harris Administration and optimism to Americans that energy may once again be affordable.”

It’s Coming
What to know: Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee is renewing his push for school choice in that state. Now is the time, he says.
The TPPF take: Now is also the time to empower Texas parents with real school choice.
“In Texas, our public schools are still assigned based on a child’s address, which are still highly segregated along socio-economic and racial lines,” writes TPPF’s Mandy Drogin. “School choice removes those artificial boundaries and allows parents to make the decision about what is best for their child. School choice breaks down institutional barriers, like zoning, and lifts up the students stuck in bad schools.”
