Don’t Vermont My Texas
What to know: On a recent visit to Texas, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders urged “raising the federal minimum wage to $20 an hour, freezing rents, improving healthcare, expanding Social Security, curbing corporate political donations and passing ‘Medicare for all.’”
The TPPF take: Radical leftists threaten a socialist takeover. But freedom-loving Texans will fight to keep Texas, Texas.
“The siren song of socialism says that government can solve every problem, cure any societal ill. But in the words of Ronald Reagan, government is not the solution. Government is the problem,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “Socialism is not welcome in the Lone Star State.”

Higher Standards
What to know: The Texas State Board of Education has adopted new social studies standards for Texas schools—and they include some Bible passages.
The TPPF take: These curriculum changes will strengthen students’ literacy and knowledge of history.
“Students learn best when they are free to understand history as it happened and when they engage with great works of literature that expand their understanding of the world,” says TPPF’s Greg Sindelar. “These standards will help Texas students build a stronger academic foundation, free from any political agenda.”

Math Facts
What to know: Math literacy begins with a student’s command of math facts—such as multiplication tables.
The TPPF take: That’s why learning those tables is so important.
“Children need encouragement and support,” says TPPF’s Kate Bierly. “They need adults who believe in their potential. But they also need something increasingly rare: truthful feedback. Yet in education, we increasingly encounter the notion that recognizing differences in achievement is somehow unfair.”
