News this morning that Raytheon Company is moving the headquarters of its $6 billion Space and Airborne Systems from El Segundo, California to McKinney, Texas.
The average salary of the 170 jobs moved to Texas is $250,000.
During the 13 years I worked in aerospace before being elected to the California State Assembly in 2004, I had the opportunity to work out of this headquarters facility more than once.
Gov. Rick Perry noted that the relocation from California was further proof that Texas’ highly-skilled and competitive workforce will continue to attract technology companies.
When combined with the fact that California taxes 42 percent more of the state’s income than does Texas-so much that if California eliminated its income tax, the nation’s highest, it would still have higher taxes than Texas-it isn’t too hard to understand why firms are leaving California and moving to Texas.
